The Guardian™ is designed from the ground up for owner maintenance. Understand exactly why – and how – it works without a licensed technician.
The PyroSafe™ Guardian™ fire extinguisher is designed for self-service. It eliminates the need for the specially trained and equipped licensed technician required for traditional extinguishers. That need is based on two concerns:
Concern 1: Correct Pressure. Traditional extinguishers must maintain stored pressure at 185–205 psi at all times. If pressure drops – due to seal failure, gauge malfunction, or temperature changes – the unit is useless in an emergency. Only a licensed technician has the equipment to safely check and re-pressurize the unit.
Concern 2: Fluffed Agent. Maintaining the agent chemical inside the extinguisher in a fluid state is critical. Fine particles in the chemical naturally compact and become dense, potentially making discharge ineffective and putting you and your business at risk. A technician must periodically tear down the extinguisher, empty and replace the chemical agent, and re-pressurize the unit.
Unlike traditional pressure extinguishers, the PyroSafe™ Guardian™'s contents are not stored under pressure. The Guardian™ is only pressurized when you need it: to fight a fire.
The source of the pressure is an expellant cartridge you can check with ease and even replace yourself. It simply screws in place – no special tools, no equipment, no training required.
Maintaining the agent chemical inside the extinguisher in a fluid state is critical for both the PyroSafe™ Guardian™ and standard extinguishers. Fine particles in the chemical naturally compact and become dense, potentially making discharge ineffective and putting you and your business at risk.
In contrast, the Guardian™ extinguisher's chemical agent is fully accessible to the user via the patented PyroSafe™ fluffing wheel located at the bottom of the extinguisher. The fluffing wheel eliminates the need for a technician. By periodically turning the wheel, you can yourself maintain the powder in a fluid state.
The fluffing wheel is connected to an auger that fluffs the chemical, ensuring that the agent will flow freely when needed to put out a fire. No depressurization. No chemical replacement. No technician required.
To become an authorized Guardian™ service owner, complete our simple online certification course. The course walks you through annual inspection procedures, fluffing wheel operation, cartridge replacement, and post-use reloading.
Alternatively, follow the step-by-step instruction manual included with every Guardian™ extinguisher. No classroom time required – most owners complete certification in under an hour.
